What if I
have a firewall?
A firewall is a filtering
device protects access to a network. Under certain circumstances,
Net2Phone can work through a firewall.
Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and ask if they
have a firewall. Once they confirm that they have a firewall,
ask if it is possible to make some changes to there firewall
in order to allow Net2Phone to work. Provide them with the following
information and see if they can provide you with the necessary
information.
"Net2Phone uses two ports, UDPPORT and TCPPORT. PCs calling
with Net2Phone use the UDPPORT to send your voice to the called
party and use the TCPPORT to route the call back to your PC.
Your Network Administrator from your ISP must tell you the ports
for you to use when calling with Net2Phone. Each port should
have a numeric value ranging from 1 to 30000."
Once you receive the UDPPORT and TCPPORT, you will need to modify
your net2fone.ini file. Double click on the My Computer
icon and open the c:\windows directory. Find the net2fone.ini
file and double click it to open it. Under the Config
heading, hit your return key twice to create two blank lines.
Write in your TCPPORT specification on the first line, and your
UDPPORT specification on the second line as follows, and where
XXXXX represents a number between 1 and 30000:
TCPPORT=XXXXX
UDPPORT=XXXXX
Save your net2fone.ini file and
close it. Now you should be able to place calls successfully.
